TRUCE Family Privacy Policy

Effective Date: November 6, 2026

Cellcontrol, Inc., d/b/a TRUCE Software (“TRUCE,” “we,” “us”) makes the TRUCE Family app for Android and iOS. This policy explains what the app collects, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices parents and family members have. It covers only TRUCE Family, which is offered in the United States. Our fleet products have a separate policy at trucesoftware.com/privacy-policy.

Who uses TRUCE Family

  • Parents and guardians (18 or older) create a family account, add family members, and set restrictions such as school, location and driving rules.
  • Children and teens use the app on their own phones after a parent adds them to the family. The app asks for a birth date when an account is created. A child under 13 is asked to have a parent set up the app. Members aged 13 to 17 are managed by a parent or guardian.
  • Schools and districts that sponsor TRUCE Family can see limited information about enrolled students, described below. A parent must opt in for a student to take part.

Information we collect

Account information. Name, email address, date of birth, role (parent or child), family group, login codes, and the school code if your family joined through a school.

Location. The precise location of each device in the family (GPS and network location: latitude, longitude, accuracy and time). If you allow location access “all the time,” the app collects location in the background, when the app is closed or not in use. We use it to:

  • show family members’ locations on the family map;
  • send alerts when someone arrives at or leaves a saved place;
  • turn location- and schedule-based restrictions on and off;
  • detect driving.

Driving information. While a family member is driving, the app records:

  • speed, heading and location points;
  • trip start and end times and places, and distance;
  • driving events, such as hard braking, fast acceleration and speeding;
  • phone handling while driving;
  • driving scores.

The app uses motion (activity recognition) data to tell when the phone is in a moving vehicle.

Installed apps. On a child’s or teen’s phone, the app sends us the list of installed apps (app name, package name, version and icon). This lets a parent choose which apps stay available during restrictions. The app also uses the phone’s app usage access on the phone itself to apply restrictions. That usage data is not sent to us.

Camera. Passenger mode uses the phone’s cameras to confirm whether the user is a passenger. The images are analyzed on the phone and are not sent to us or stored. If your family uses a TRUCEVision dash camera, video clips of drives are uploaded and stored in your family’s account.

Family messages. Messages sent with TRUCE Family messaging are stored on our servers so family members can receive them.

Device information. Device type, operating system, app version, battery level, permission status, and a notification token.

Purchases. Subscription status from Google Play or the App Store. We do not receive your full payment card number.

App usage analytics. Screens viewed and features used, with your role, language, subscription status and school name. These analytics do not include location.

TRUCE Family does not access the photos, videos, texts, emails, passwords or browsing history stored on a family member’s phone.

How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • run TRUCE Family’s features: the family map, place alerts, restrictions, driving detection and scores, passenger mode, messaging and school programs;
  • keep the app working;
  • tell parents when a permission is turned off or the app stops reporting;
  • provide support;
  • improve the app.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for advertising. The app contains no advertising software.

Who can see your information

  • Your family. Parents can see each family member’s location, trips, driving events and scores, installed apps, and permission and restriction status. Family members who turn on location sharing can see each other’s location.
  • Your school, if your family joined through a school program. For an enrolled student, the school can see the student’s name and email, device type, whether the student is on or off campus, and whether restrictions are working (including permission status). The school does not see the student’s location.
  • Service providers that run parts of TRUCE Family for us: Google Firebase and Google Cloud for hosting, data storage, sign-in and notifications; Google Maps and Places for maps and place search; Pendo for app analytics; and Google Play and the Apple App Store for subscriptions. They may use the information only to provide those services to us.
  • Legal reasons. When the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.

Children’s privacy

TRUCE Family is built for families with children, including children under 13. A child under 13 cannot set up the app alone. The app asks the child to have a parent set it up, and the parent creates the family and adds the child. By creating the family account and adding the child, the parent consents to our collecting and using the child’s information as described in this policy. We collect from a child only what is needed to run the features the parent turns on.

A parent can:

  • review the information we hold about their child;
  • ask us to delete it;
  • stop further collection by removing the child from the family or deleting the account.

To do any of these, email support@trucesoftware.com.

Your choices

  • Location. You can turn off location access, or change it from “all the time,” in your phone’s settings. Features that need location will stop working, and the app will tell a parent that location is off.
  • Location sharing. Family members can turn location sharing on or off in the app.
  • Account deletion. A family member can request account deletion in the app, and a parent approves it. A parent can delete the family account, or email support@trucesoftware.com. We delete a deleted account’s information within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

How long we keep information

We keep information while the family account is active, so the app can show location history, trips, driving scores, dash-cam clips and messages. When an account is deleted, we delete its information within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

Security

Information is encrypted in transit and stored with Google Cloud. Family messages are not end-to-end encrypted. No system is completely secure.

Changes to this policy

We will post changes on this page and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle children’s information, we will notify parents before it takes effect.
