Texas Distracted Driving Laws

Commercial fleets in the great State of Texas are finding they need to adapt to the latest distracted driving laws. TRUCE technology is the solution for companies that are trying to adhere to the new distracted driving laws and enforce their company policies prohibiting texting or using the phone while driving.

The 85th Texas legislative session in September 2017 passed a new law that enacts a comprehensive ban on the use of mobile phones and devices while driving. The law specifically prohibits motorists from reading, writing, or sending electronic messages while driving.

Most drivers admit to texting or using their mobile device while driving and at the same time, the majority of the public also recognizes the danger of this behavior. The Smartphone has become such a part of our experience, it is a hard habit to break.

The best companies recognize that if you have a company policy prohibiting the use of mobile devices while driving, you also need a way to enforce the policy. With new laws coming forward, fewer companies in Texas want law enforcement to be the way to police their policies. And the violations are quite public. In the U.S., the Federal Government under the Department of Transportation (DOT) publishes each company’s violations in their commercial fleets and the number of penalties attached to distracted driving are growing.
