At Terminix, safety doesn’t just happen. The company recognizes that they need to be very intentional about protecting their employees in order to achieve their goal of being a best-in-class services company. By eliminating distracted driving, Terminix is closer to achieving that goal – while reaping the operational and financial benefits of a safer workplace.

Overview

Terminix is a leading provider of residential and commercial pest control services, with more than 10,500 teammates and 2.8 million customers in 24 countries and territories. On any given day, Terminix teammates visit more than 50,000 homes and business.

“The biggest risk most people take each day is driving, and distracted driving is one of the main causes of accidents today,” comments Ken Bowman, vice president, operational excellence at Terminix. “As a company that values safety and with more than 8,000 of our own teammates on the road each day, we believe employers can play a critical role in making the roads safer for everyone.”

Terminix had made some nominal improvements through policy changes and training, but ultimately found they needed to rely on a technology solution for drive lasting change.

Challenges

  • Enforcing “No Phone” policy to protect employees from distracted driving.
  • Implement a solution that would not negatively impact employee productivity.
  • Be a best-in-class performer – not just in the pest control industry, but in the services industry.

Results

  • 15% reduction in accident frequency.
  • Reduced costs by $1M.
  • Associates protected by TRUCE are 2.5x less likely to get in an accident.

“We’ve had a ‘No Phone’ policy in place for several years now, but with the addition of TRUCE we’ve been able to successfully enforce that policy and reduce rear-end collisions – a symptom of distracted driving – by nearly 15%. We’re proud of our progress and strive to continue leading the way to eliminate distracted driving.”
